Old Saikapian Association (OSA) is a Network of ex-students of the Sainik School Kapurthala. The OSA members are scattered all around the planet. They are in all walks of life.
There are 19 Sainik Schools all over India. Sainik schools were started by the Government of India, way back in 1961. Each Indian state has one Sainik School, except for the North-Eastern states, where Assam and Manipur have one each for all the states in the north-east.
Sainik Schools were a dream conceived by Mr. Krishna Menon, the then Defense Minister of India. The schools are run by the Government of India and managed by the Sainik School Society under Government of India.
Motive behind the Sainik Schools is to nurture youngsters, impart the highest standards of education, motivate and condition them to serve the Indian Armed Forces. Since the beginning, these schools have delivered the highly talented, motivated, and responsible youth not just in Indian Armed forces but in all walks of life.
Sainik School Kapurthala - is one of the most preferred and prestigious public schools in India. Spread in around 200 acres it is one of the remarkable buildings in Kapurthala. This is also known as Jagatjit Palace. Maharaja Jagatjit's palace and gardens were modeled on Versailles. He hired a French architect M. Marcel, was inspired by the palaces of Versailles and Fontainbleau. Its plaster of Paris figures and painted ceilings represent the finest features of French art and architecture. It was built in renaissance style with the sunken park in the front (Known as Baija) and has many other similarities to that of Palace of Versailles. The construction of this palace took roughly eight years(1900-1908).The interior decoration of the palace, which is unique of its kind in India was carried out by expert European and Indian workmen. The great Darbar Hall is one of the finest in India. The palace is full of imported art work from France, Italy, Holland.
It was in 1961 that Sainik School Kapurthala came into being in the palace. Since then Sainik School Kapurthala has given to Indian army -Brave and intelligent officers who have gone to the level of Lt. Generals in Indian Army. The contribution of school in civil sector is also immense where it has given to our nation responsible citizens in almost every profession. No matter what the profession is - SAIKAPIANS are there to lead and lead from the front and they have been successful leaders thanks to the schooling they have got.
